Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment in Willow Grove

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Treatment in Willow Grove

It often starts at night. Your hands wake you up, numb and tingling, and you shake them out until feeling returns. Then it starts happening during the day too, while typing, driving, or holding a phone. What most patients do not realize is that the wrist is frequently not the only source of the problem.

At TLC Chiropractic, Dr. Dean DePice evaluates the entire median nerve pathway from the cervical spine to the hand, finding every point of compression contributing to your symptoms, not just the one at the wrist.

Common Causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The median nerve travels from the cervical spine through the shoulder, elbow, and forearm before reaching the wrist. Compression at any point along that path can produce or amplify carpal tunnel symptoms. Common causes include:

  • Repetitive wrist and hand use: sustained keyboard work, assembly tasks, or any activity that creates inflammation inside the carpal tunnel over time
  • Cervical spine misalignment: nerve root compression at C6 to T1 that sensitizes the median nerve before it reaches the wrist, a frequently overlooked piece of the picture
  • Thoracic outlet restriction: compression of the nerve pathway between the collarbone and first rib that compounds wrist-level symptoms
  • Wrist inflammation: swelling from injury or repetitive strain that reduces the space inside the carpal tunnel and presses on the nerve
  • Forearm muscle tightness: the pronator teres can trap the median nerve as it passes through the forearm, adding another layer to an already compromised pathway

Symptoms Related to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome can present in different ways depending on where along the nerve the compression is greatest:

  • Numbness or tingling in the thumb, index, and middle fingers, particularly at night or upon waking
  • Wrist, hand, or forearm pain that sometimes extends toward the elbow or shoulder
  • Weakening grip strength and difficulty with tasks requiring fine motor control
  • A tendency to drop objects unexpectedly
  • Burning or aching that interrupts sleep and worsens with sustained hand use

If these symptoms sound familiar, a complete nerve pathway evaluation can tell you what is actually driving them.
